We quite often get requests from our readers and members of our Facebook Group, for slimming friendly versions of their favourite recipes. This Sweet Chilli Sauce is one of those recipes!

  • 1 whole red chilli (finely chopped, no need to remove the seeds, depending on how hot you like it !)))
  • 160 ml white wine vinegar
  • 2½ tbsp Granulated Sweetener
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 shallot (peeled and grated)
  • 2 cloves garlic (shredded)
  • 2 tsp tomato puree
  • 1 tsp honey
  • ¼ tsp xanthan gum (you may need a little more or less)
  • low Calorie Cooking Spray


  1. Mist a small pan with low calorie cooking spray, then fry off the garlic, shallot and chopped chilli until they have started to colour slightly
  2. Pour in the white wine vinegar, then add the sweetener, salt and tomato puree. Stir well and bring to the boil
  3. Stir in the honey, allow to simmer for a minute then remove from the heat
  4. Add the Xanthan Gum a sprinkle at a time, whisking well after each addition. Continue adding and whisking until the sauce has thickened to the right consistency. Check the taste and add a little more sweetener if necessary
  5. Remove from the heat and allow to cool, then pour into an airtight jar or bottle and keep in the fridge until you\'re ready to use
